The Slaughter Rounds

I had lost count of how many animals were killed, I could always just count the bullets missing from my sniper. I wouldn't bother anyway all that mattered was the tip of my gun rested on the windowsill firing on my demand. Then again I should have counted them now rather than count their bodies as I moved the blood soaked animal corpses into the blazing bonfire. A few months ago I could have never imagined myself murdering animals, I couldn't even bring myself to kill a fly, but then again a few months ago it hadn't happened. Right now I am at my Uncles barn, we both took refuge here the day after it happened, lucky for me my Uncle was one of the ones who predicted that it was going to happen. If only everyone else listened to him, poor bastards. He used to tell me stories of the day it would all happen, I always did believe him or maybe I just said I did to make him happy either way I never imagined what it is actually like. "You alright, Kiel?" My uncle called as he thumped his feet up the wooden stairs of the barn. He placed a box of fresh bullets for my weapon beside me as he rested against a pile of hay. "Yeah I'm fine." I eased looking over to him rather than the out the small opening of the window. He looked out the window. "I guess they stopped for now, they'll be back no doubt." He patted me on the back and walked back down the stairs. I sighed and nodded to him as I reloaded the sniper with a new round of bullets. I always wished that he was lying about it happening, his stories were intense, thrilling, horrific but nothing could have prepared me for what it's really like. But his silly stories are behind me now, Everything has changed because of it, The Slaughter Rounds.
